The car

2025-07-26

Hino Contessa 900 Sprint 1961 – First, I had to fix some details on the 3D model and set up the materials to make it close to the real car in his traditional green.

> Process / Sofware used

SketchUp (fixing the model and separating materials) ; Dimension5 (Setting up the details of the materials as roughness, specular, bump or imperfections) – The context for this showroom was already made for a previous project.

The context

The car inspired me a ride along the mediterranean coast. The purpose is to replicate these mythic Italian or French roads that we’ve seen in ’60s movies.

> Process / Sofware used

SketchUp (Modeling the road from scratch) ; Dimension5 (Modeling and set up the terrain, vegetation and natural rocks, apply and set the textures)

The film simulation

Car and context are ready. The scene now needs a touch of life and motion. See details in process.

> Process / Sofware used

Dimension5 (In order: making the sea more alive with different surfaces to render a natural water fading on the horizon, adding dust effect behind the car to create an eager-for-adventure sensation, tweaking the global colors to match the filmic shades from the ’60s, adjusting sun position and lighting intensity, reducing car metalness and specular to decrease the shinning effect of the car and make it fit harmoniously in the context, and rendering the final output image with depth map) ;
Photoshop (Tweaking the camera blur with the depth map rendered before, adding a typical film grain and a glimpse of light on the top left corner to make the non-visible source light more present)

« Once Upon a Drive » — A quiet 1960s movie scene drives you into the peace of the automobile golden hour. This image is made to help you light up your imagination: you’re just driving, now feel the endless moment… I’m sure you’ll never look at this car model the same way again!
